Shortage of blood bottles

As widely publicised in the media, there is currently a shortage of some blood bottles and all GPs have been asked to halt testing until 17th September 2021, except for clinically urgent testing which includes:

  • Bloods that are required to facilitate a two week wait referral
  • Bloods that are extremely overdue and/or essential for safe prescribing of medication or monitoring of condition
  • Bloods which may help to avoid a hospital admission
  • Bloods for suspected sepsis or conditions with a risk of death or disability.

If you are booked in for a blood test which does not meet the above exceptions, we will need to postpone your blood test for after 17th September 2021.

Please be patient with staff if your blood test is delayed. This situation is outside of the control of the GP Practice.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
