There have been recent posts on social media / news outlets / The One Show with information about opting out of sharing your data with the NHS.
The information you need is available in our Privacy Notice and we agree it is quite confusing!
Please see our flow chart to help you decide what action you want to take.
Type 1 Opt-Out ( which prevents sharing of data outside the GP Practice for anything other than individual care- this prevents GPDPR data collection )
If you wish to opt out please print out the form below. Complete and sign it, then post or email it to us so that we can process this for you on your record.
National Opt-Out ( which prevents sharing of confidential data by NHS Digital with other organisations for purposes except individual care – this does not apply to the GPDPR collection )
You need to do this yourself on the NHS APP, by logging in, clicking on YOUR HEALTH at the bottom of the app, then selecting ‘ Choose if data from your health records is shared for research and planning‘. Next step is to click on MAKE YOUR CHOICE, then START NOW. It will display what your choice is and you can change it.

There is no deadline for an opt out of data sharing and you can opt back in at anytime.
There are strict rules about how NHS can use your data. It’s only shared securely and safely.
Shared data helps the NHS. It has been used to find the first treatment for coronavirus and for vaccine research.
